Registering your interest is non-binding. It does not constitute an application to open an AVD, nor does it represent a commitment by Interactive Brokers to offer an AVD.

Frequently Asked Questions

The AVD is a new form of state-sponsored investment account. It allows you to invest directly into capital markets and your contributions will be subsidized through the German state.

During the accumulation phase, increases in value and returns within the account are tax-free. Taxation only occurs later, during the payout phase.

Not Yet. This page serves solely to record the interest of IBKR customers in Germany. It is not an offer to open an AVD.

You can open an AVD if you are at least 18 years old and subject to unlimited tax liability in Germany (or in an EU/EEA country with a German pension link). In addition, you must belong to a group eligible for the allowance – this includes in particular:
  • Employees subject to social security contributions
  • Self-employed persons who file tax returns
  • Parents during child-raising periods (max. 3 years/child)
  • Certain benefit recipients (e.g., unemployment benefit I, sickness benefit)
  • Members of professional pension schemes
  • Civil servants and equivalent groups
  • Family caregivers
  • Mini-jobbers (without having opted out of pension insurance)
  • Artists/publicists (insured under the KSV)
  • Farmers
  • Persons with reduced earning capacity
  • Participants in the Federal Volunteer Service (each subject to any required consent for data transmission)

The maximum state subsidy that will be paid for your investments is EUR 540. Account holders under the age of 25 will receive a one-time bonus of EUR 200. Account holders can receive a yearly additional subsidy of up to EUR 300 per child.

There are two variants:
  1. Standard Account, where IBKR determines the investments within the AVD.
  2. Flexible Account, where you can select the investments yourself. These include ETFs, various funds, and bonds.

You cannot directly transfer an existing Riester or Rürup contract. However, you can convert or sell it with your previous provider. Alternatively, you can simply open a new AVD via IBKR.

You can invest in an AVD up until the age of 67. From this point onward, the payout phase can begin at the earliest. You can choose the age at which your payout phase begins yourself, provided that it starts between the ages of 65 and 70.

No. Expressing interest is non-binding and does not lead to an account opening or contractual relationship. Availability, requirements, investment products, features, conditions and any associated costs or charges have not yet been finalised and may change before launch.
